David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage was established in 1977. It has a deep-rooted family history in wildlife and conservation. It was founded in the loving memory of Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick's (DBE) late husband, David Leslie William Sheldrick (MBE). The well-protected nursery located in Nairobi National Park offers a safe habitat to orphaned baby elephants, which are rescued by the Trust.

It is home to a wide range of wildlife, including endangered black rhino, giraffes, lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, along with a diverse birdlife with over 400 different types of species. The park is also ideal for picnics.
Giraffe Centre, Nairobi
The Giraffe Centre opened its doors to the general public and students in 1983. The vision behind creating the sanctuary was to build an educational institution in conjunction with rescuing giraffes. At present, there are over 3000 Rothschild giraffes safe and sound, breeding well in different Kenyan national parks. Lake Elementaita in the Great Rift Valley, Kigio Conservancy and the Sergoit Ranch in the Mount Elgon region introduced recent herds as well.
